SIR Geoff Hurst helped England win the World Cup but the hat-trick legend now reflects on his most painful losses... the team-mates from those glory days.

The 82-year-old former West Ham striker is the last surviving member of the 11 players who beat West Germany 4-2 at Wembley in 1966.

As England prepare for Euro 2024 which kicks off tonight in Germany, Sir Geoff said of his late cup-winning pals: "They've all gone. It's very sad.

"I spent so much time with those players, not just playing but we had many golf days afterwards for many, many years.

"Every time I see a picture of the team or just two or three of us doing something we did over the years, it fills me with great sadness. Yeah, it's as simple as that, really. It's extremely sad." Sir Geoff became the last survivor of the team after the death of 86-year-old Sir Bobby Charlton last October.
