DOMINIK SZOBOSZLAI tonight returns to the city and club that 'made' him, aware that it is time he made an impact under Arne Slot.The Hungary captain arrived at Liverpool as one of Jurgen Klopp's final signings just over 12 months ago in a deal worth £60million.His early performances even triggered comparisons with Anfield legend Steven Gerrard.But Szoboszlai, who will turn 24 on Friday, is struggling to adapt to the demands of Klopp's successor in the Kop dugout.<img src="https://cdn.magzter.com/1583503328/1729642304/articles/QdXiMOXmt1729660598889/3764131916.jpg" alt="image">He has started seven out of eight games in the Premier League and two out of two in Europe ahead of tonight's Champions League clash with his former club RB Leipzig, but has not yet recaptured that early Anfield form.But on his old stomping ground tonight, Slot (below, with Luis Diaz) might just see the best of the Hungarian. "The match is special for me because I had two and a half great years in Leipzig," said the midfielder. "RB made me the player I am today. Without the formative time in Leipzig, I probably wouldn't have made the leap to the best league in the world." There's no doubt that Szoboszlai has the trust of Slot but he has yet to match his stats from last season in a more advanced position.He has yet to score in eight games and 629 minutes, with just one assist so far in the Premier League. Just as concerning is that his passing stats are down from 59.7 per 90 minutes last season across 33 games to 50.5 this term.He ranks 43rd for chances created in the Premier League this season, and 72nd for passcompletion rate when counting players who have played more than 300 minutes.<img src="https://cdn.magzter.com/1583503328/1729642304/articles/QdXiMOXmt1729660598889/1315274429.jpg" alt="image">He is also winning the ball slightly less at five times per game compared to 7.3 last season. But these are early days under Slot and a new position he has probably yet to master.There is still great confidence within Liverpool that he can go up levels thanks to his age and willingness to learn. "It can always be better," said the Hungarian (below, with Mo Salah and Kostas Tsimikas). "I can play even better."As the gaffer said, I can score more goals, create more assists.I'm doing a dirty job for the team."The league is extremely demanding, every game is very intense, and the level is high.Every mistake is punished immediately. It's a lot of fun." Ibrahima Konate is also returning to his former club with Szoboszlai, having spent four years with them before moving to Merseyside in 2021, and Mo Salah (below) is expected to start again.Leipzig trail Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich on goal difference but lost their opening two Champions League ties. "The game will be a mega challenge for us," said Szoboszlai. "Playing in Leipzig is incredibly difficult."
