The PM warned grain ships bound for Africa and the Middle East, including Palestine, are becoming collateral damage in the reckless raids.Vladimir Putin's attacks on Black Sea ports such as Odessa coincide with harvest season in Ukraine, which is known as one of the breadbaskets of the world due to its global export of grain.Mr Starmer said: "Indiscriminate strikes on Black Sea ports underscore that Putin is willing to gamble on global food security in his attempts to force Ukraine into submission."In doing so, he is harming millions of vulnerable people across Africa, Asia and the Middle East to try and gain the upper hand in his barbaric war."They are intensifying attacks on areas of Ukraine that support the global south with much-needed food. Russia has no respect for the norms and laws that govern our international system." A ship carrying vegetable oil from Ukraine for the World Food Programme in Palestine is believed to have been delayed by the attacks. UK intelligence claims Russia also hit vessels loaded with grain for Egypt and southern Africa.Mr Starmer also branded Putin's reported move to bring North Korean troops into its war with Ukraine as "desperate and embarrassing".It comes as the UK confirmed a £2.26billion loan to help Ukraine, funded by profits on frozen Russian assets.
