THE medals of an SAS hero who spent 22 days wreaking havoc behind enemy lines around D-Day are up for sale.

Corporal Kenneth Bateman was part of a crack team of 55 elite soldiers parachuted into occupied France hours before the landings on June 6, 1944.

The undercover mission, called Operation Bulbasket, was so secret that the details only emerged following the release of classified documents several decades later.
