DETECTIVES are hunting a brazen armed thief who escaped with gems worth £10.4million in one of the country's biggest-ever heists.

The burglar's huge haul included a Graff 10.73-carat diamond ring, two De Beers butterfly diamond rings and a Hermes Niloticus Lumiere necklace.

Police said the masked raider broke into a house between 5pm and 5.30pm on Saturday, December 7, in Primrose Hill, North London, where homes sell for an average £15million.

The suspect, a white man aged in his late 20s to 30s, was wearing a dark hoodie, cargo trousers and a grey baseball cap.

He is believed to have been caught on CCTV in an area regularly patrolled by police and private security guards.
