Wake up! The river's gone

WE know many superheroes wear capes, but here's one in Marigolds...

Caralyn Moreton helped save homes in the recent floods by wading through a badly hit neighbourhood, banging on doors and awaking residents.

And the brave 60-year-old single-handedly closed 14 floodgates while wearing her rubber kitchen gloves.

Caralyn recreated her heroic dash through Pontypridd, South Wales, for the Mirror as locals told of their anger over claims the authorities were slow to act.

The dental technologist said: "I secured as many gates as I could and then was banging the hell out of the houses and was shouting and screaming, 'Move your cars, the river's gone.

"I made sure all the gates were locked with the flood handles because normally Natural Resources Wales would do that but they were nowhere to be seen so I knew I had to take action.
