STEVE BORTHWICK insists his England have nothing to hide and players are free to speak their minds in camp - unlike previous regimes.Former scrum-half Danny Care lifted the lid on life under Borthwick's predecessor Eddie Jones in a new book, describing the environment as toxic and like living in a dictatorship.Borthwick was Jones' assistant with England from 2016 to 2019 but revealed players can challenge him and he operates an open-door policy.Players are told to switch off from rugby during down time and Borthwick said he is open to challenges from the squad. You can ask players and assistant coaches whatever you want to ask them about the environment now. And every Premiership club, if they want to come in they are very welcome," said Borthwick."There are plenty of times where we have ideas and we discuss them. It's almost on a daily basis I'll be chatting with players and bouncing ideas round and then things get moulded, adapted and improved."The players are the ones on the pitch who know the game better than anyone else. The best players are the best coaches and luckily we have some great, great minds in this group." Borthwick has backed up his claim of listening to players by swapping Ollie Lawrence to outside centre and Henry Slade to 12 for Saturday's clash with Australia. The pair have lined up with Lawrence at 12 for most of this year.He said: "This came from a discussion with them. The way they play is pretty interchangeable generally." Borthwick admitted his side let George Ford (inset) down in Saturday's gut-wrenching defeat to New Zealand.Ford missed a drop goal in the last play of the game as England slipped to a 24-22 defeat against the All Blacks and looked shellshocked as he left the field.The head coach said: "We didn't give him the best platform, and we're disappointed in that now. We've talked about it, we've gone through it in training many times, put them in the scenario, a very similar scenario." Borthwick has stuck with the same starting XV that lost to the Kiwis but tweaked it by switching Slade and Lawrence.
