22 die in strike on Hezbollah warlord

BEIRUT was reeling yesterday from its most deadly strikes, which killed at least 22 and wounded 117.

The air attack by Israel on Lebanon's capital was aimed at killing top Hezbollah official Wafiq Safa.

It is believed he was seriously wounded in one of the strikes on two residential complexes.

Emergency workers were digging through rubble from a three-storey building knocked down in the Burj Abi Haidar neighbourhood in Thursday night's attack. A dad from an adjacent building said of the strike that injured him and his family, including his two-year-old girl: "The world suddenly turned upside down and darkness prevailed."

Ahmad al-Khatib, 42, added he pulled his daughter from the debris of a wall that collapsed.
