SCOTLAND remembered the Fallen yesterday with serving military personnel joining veterans for an Armistice Day service at Edinburgh Castle.

The RAF Central Scotland Pipes and Drums band led a military parade down the Royal Mile, with members of the three Armed Forces marching to the service at the Scottish National War Memorial.

When the gun was fired from Edinburgh Castle at 11am, the nation remembered those who died in conflict with a two-minute silence, marking the agreement to end the fighting in the First World War. The Rev Dr George Whyte, interim moderator at St Giles's Cathedral, led a short service of remembrance.

Brigadier Jody Davies, Commander 51 Infantry Brigade and Headquarters Scotland, read a piece called He is Gone from an unknown author. Corporal Megan Reid read an extract from His Mate, written by the Rev GA Studdert-Kennedy MC.

The Band of His Majesty's Royal Marines Scotland provided musical support and a lament performed by a piper from the City of Edinburgh University Officers' Training Corps, Officer Cadet Felix Walker.

Keir Starmer met French president Emmanuel Macron ahead of commemorations across the Channel. He became the first British PM to attend the Paris event since Winston Churchill in 1944.
