A TALENTED young footballer who lost his legs after a devastating car crash has spoken of his ordeal for the first time.
Adam Golebiewski, from Banff, was travelling home from a night out with pals on September 8 when they were involved in a one-vehicle collision in Macduff, Aberdeenshire.
The 18-year-old – who had been a gifted goalie for local club Deveronside JFC – was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary before medics told him his injuries were so severe that both his limbs would have to be amputated.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Adam told the Record he is “thankful to be alive”.
He said: “When I woke up after the crash, they told me I was in hospital in Aberdeen and I had been in an accident.
“Then I got taken to theatre. When I woke up in recovery, my consultant told me what had happenedand said that they had to take off both my legs.
“The only word I can use to describe how I felt is thankful. Thankful I was still here, thankful that I was alive – and also thankful that I couldn’t remember what had happened.”
And while the heartbreaking incident has been a huge blow for Adam’s family, the teen, an apprentice builder, has remained positive and been a “rock” to his loved ones.
Reflecting on his life-changing injuries, Adam, who celebrated his 18th birthday in hospital, said: "There is nothing I can do about it now but if I put the hard work in, I will get up on my new legs.
