Israel resumes Beirut blitz as Gaza toll tops 43,000

ISRAELI warplanes pounded Lebanon yesterday, killing at least 10 people, while attacks on Gaza also claimed at least 25 more lives.

The deaths from strikes in central Gaza included five children, adding to the Strip's toll of more than 43,000.

The barrage of Beirut resumed for the first time in several days, along with sorties against Hezbollah targets in the south.

Lebanon's state news agency said two strikes, in Amhaz and Taraya, killed 10 people in the country's north-east.

Strikes on the city of Baalbek and nearby villages, as well as different parts of regions in the south, have intensified this week.

Dozens of buildings in southern Beirut's Dahiyeh community were also destroyed, adding to fears of a much greater death toll, although no casualty list was available.
