FAMILY will come first for the Princess of Wales today as she celebrates her 43rd birthday at home in Windsor with Prince William and their children.
It comes after a year described as "brutal" by her husband, which began with abdominal surgery eight days after her 42nd birthday followed by a shock cancer diagnosis, which she announced in a video last March.
This year has started more brightly and Kate, who has said her focus is now on "staying cancer free", is said to be prioritising spending time with children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and six-year-old Prince Louis.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes Kate will still receive some surprises from William and other royal relatives.
She said: "Her birthday is on a school day, so life will be the usual hectic round of getting everyone ready, with school bags packed.
