THE world's oldest man has passed away aged 112 near his home city of Liverpool.

John Alfred Tinniswood was born on August 26, 1912, when George V was king, Asquith was prime minister and four months after the Titanic sank.

John died in his care home in Southport, Merseyside, on Monday.

The lifelong Liverpool FC fan became the world's oldest man in April when Juan Vicente Perez Mora died in Venezuela aged 114.
