Rain Newton-Smith took over the CBI yesterday as it fights for survival amid allegations of rape and sexual misconduct. She said: “Whenever I have seen sexual harassment, I have acted and I raised those issues. I stood up and spoke up when I saw behaviour that I did not think was appropriate.”
Critics questioned whether Ms Newton-Smith, 47, was the right person to lead the organisation having been an ex-executive board member of the body, which claims to represent 190,000 companies employing seven million people.
