INDIA HAS earner put the state of Karnataka on the global helicopter manufacturing map, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd's helicopter production facility at Tumkuru, about 100 km from the state capital Bengaluru. The facility was opened on February 6, boosting the 'aatmanirbharta' in fulfilling Indian armed forces' need for nearly 1,000 helicopters in the next few years in the three-tonne to 15-tonne categories.
The factory, which will begin operations later this year, will be providing an opportunity for defence business worth 400,000 crore and create 6,000 jobs for the local population of the state. The factory was opened in the presence of minister of defence Rajnath Singh and other MoD officials. The greenfield helicopter manufacturing plan is spread over 615 acres of land.
It is planned as a one-stop solution for all helicopter requirements of the Indian armed forces.
