TV ad rates up 15% as India looks to rewrite semi-final script

TELEVISION AD RATES have already started scoring heavily even as the Men in Blue pad up to take on the Black Caps in the first semi-final of the Cricket World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Media industry sources said ad rates have already gone up by 15% to 35 lakh per 10 seconds for lastminute spot buys. They were at 30 lakh during the league stage, which is double the rate charged during the 2019 edition. In that edition, India bowed out after losing to New Zealand in the semi-final.

If Team India make it to the final, the premium for the match in  terms of spot ad rates could increase significantly, as much as 25-30%, media industry sources said.

"India have extended their winning streak to nine games in the 2023 Cricket World Cup after Sunday's win over the Netherlands. This is their longest ever in the tournament," said Sajal Gupta, chief executive officer at Gurugram-based media consultancy Kiaos Marketing.
