BENGALURU: Deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar on Friday announced the establishment of a research and study centre at Bangalore University to honour the legacy of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Addressing the media in Belagavi after Singh's demise, Shivakumar said, "Destiny is not in our hands, but I am proud to say that though Manmohan Singh is no more, he is still alive through his contributions to the nation. His legacy cannot be altered. At Bangalore University, we are going to start a research and study centre for all students to learn about the reforms he had created for the growth of the country."
He further said that the initiative aims to educate students about Singh's role in shaping modern India through his economic reforms, particularly the liberalisation measures introduced during his tenure as Finance Minister in the 1990s.
The announcement came as the state government declared a seven-day mourning period, from December 26, 2024, to January 1, 2025. During this period, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast on all government buildings, and public entertainment is prohibited.
