With 1800 votes counted at the time of going to press, Jaitley had garnered 1176 votes and his main challenger, Kirti Azad, member of the victorious 1983 World Cup and Trinamool Congress MP, having polled 574 votes.
Jaitley, who first became DDCA president in 2020 and was first elected for a full term in 2021, appears set to retain the post. While over 3700 members were eligible to vote, the election held from December 13 to 15 saw 2,463 members cast their vote.
In a triangular contest for the secretary's post, Ashok Sharma, who is one of the outgoing directors in DDCA, had gained a significant lead. Sharma, who is part of Jaitley's panel, was leading with 647 votes.
