JAMSHEDPUR: Jharkhand chief minister (CM) Hemant Soren on Wednesday assured the identification of families of all the martyrs of the 'Kharsawan Firing', in which thousands of tribals were killed by Odisha Police on January 1, 1948.

Soren, along with his wife and Gandey MLA Kalpana Murmu Soren, spoke to the media on Wednesday afternoon after paying floral tribute at the Martyrs' Memorial in Kharsawan Shahid Park and the Martyrs' Memory Signage at Veer Kersa Munda Chowk. "It was our government that identified the martyrs of the Gua Firing and provided jobs to their kin. Efforts are ongoing to identify the families of the Kharsawan Firing as well. We will try to identify the families of all the martyrs of the Kharsawan Firing and stand by them," Soren told the media at Kharsawan Shahid Sthal on Wednesday.

When a woman asked when they would receive the ₹2,500 monthly incentive for December, the CM responded that she should call and inform him when she gets it.
