CJI CHANDRACHUD
Since taking over as the 50th CJI on November 9 last year, the collegium headed by Justice Chandrachud has appointed 11 judges to the SC and on November 6, three more names were recommended for top court judgeship.
At the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit that concluded on November 4, CJI Chandrachud said though he is the head of the judiciary, as a judge, his primary job is to decide cases of common citizens who cannot be told that their small disputes of pension, service, tax dispute or personal liberty cannot be heard when matters of seminal constitutional importance are pending.
As he reaches the halfway mark of his tenure as the CJI - he will demit office on November 10, 2024 - here is a look back at how the first half of his innings at the helm of judiciary played out:
