"This collection is 80.23% of the total revised estimates (RE) of direct taxes for FY24," the finance ministry said in a statement while releasing the provisional data. Robust tax collections prompted finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to raise direct tax target to ₹19.45 lakh crore in RE of 2023-24 in the budget on February 1 from little over ₹18.23 lakh crore in the initial budget estimates (BE).
