Govt identifies 43 open garbage fire hot spots
Hindustan Times|December 21, 2023
The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has identified 43 hot spots across the Capital where open burning of waste occurred regularly over the last year, and has asked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to enforce strict action on the ground to curtail the practice, according to documents seen by HT.

In a letter to MCD, DPCC said that temperatures were dipping once again in the Capital, which will lead to a rise in open biomass burning cases, and asked for action to thoroughly investigate the hot spots listed.

DPCC said the hot spots were identified from complaints on the Green Delhi app between December 2022 and 2023. "This data, encompassing both resolved and pending complaints, paints a clear picture of hot spot clusters where household waste, garden refuse, and even plastics are illegally incinerated," said the letter, written by KS Jayachandran, member secretary, DPCC, on Tuesday.
