The assailants they included three minors - were caught after two policemen on patrol duty spotted them dragging the body and chased the culprits, nabbing three of them at the spot, officers said. The remaining two were apprehended later in the day.
The deceased was identified as Gaurav Singh alias Lambu, a resident of Gautampuri. The police, quoting the statement of the apprehended attackers, said Singh had borrowed 3,500 from a woman in the locality but was refusing to return the amount, which is why she asked them (the assailants) for their help in retrieving the money.
Giving details of the case, deputy commissioner of police (southeast) Rajesh Deo said that around 2am, two head constables were on patrol duty when they spotted a group of people dragging a bleeding, unconscious man at Meet Chowk in Gautampuri.
