Chakraborty was arrested on October 3, along with the NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha, after raids were conducted on journalists, freelancer contributors and satirists linked to the portal.
He moved an application under Section 306 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) last week, before additional sessions judge (ASJ) Hardeep Kaur, seeking pardon while agreeing to disclose information related to the case.
Section 306 of CrPC allows the court to grant pardon to an accomplice in a crime on the condition that they make a full disclosure of circumstances within their knowledge related to the offence, and to every other person concerned in the alleged crime.
The court has now listed the matter before the metropolitan magistrate to recording of his statements, after which the application will either be allowed or dismissed.
NewsClick and Purkayastha have denied all charges.
