The notice from the municipal secretary, dated January 11, stated that the special meeting will discuss two issues-powers of the standing committee be vested in the house with immediate effect till the formation of the panel, and de-sealing of shops in local shopping centres.
However, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has termed the move illegal, demanding that the elections for the standing committee be held immediately.
The 18-member MCD standing committee controls the purse strings of the civic body.
HT had earlier reported that even a year after the MCD elections in December 2022, a policy paralysis has plagued the civic body due to the non-formation of the key panel, which is stuck in a political and legal stalemate.
