1,060 HORSES DIE AT IRISH RACE TRACKS IN THE PAST 10YRS

OVER 1,000 racehorses died at Irish tracks in the past decade, it was revealed yesterday.

It has also emerged that the rate of deaths of horses at racing events here is much higher than in the UK.

Yesterday People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy said that due to the number of horses dying during and after these events it might be time to consider a ban on jump racing.

Figures provided to RTE's This Week by the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board show fatalities in Ireland are significantly higher than in the UK.
