IRISH consumers spent an additional €2.9million on beer and lager over the last four weeks during the hot weather, experts revealed yesterday.

Findings from insights and consulting company Kantar also show grocery inflation is at its lowest levels since the start of the year.

It revealed consumers were buying less per trip to supermarkets but shopping more frequently.

Emer Healy, Senior Retail Analyst at Kantar, said: “Irish consumers enjoyed longer warmer days during the last four weeks and took the opportunity to crack out the barbecues.
