New trial drugs effective for 90% of patients

TRIALS of drugs which use a patient's own immune system to fight blood cancer are showing "groundbreaking" results.

Medics hope the new drugs will revolutionise treatment.

About 30 clinical trials are under way, including five for myeloma, a disease that develops from plasma cells in bone marrow.

Dr Emma Searle, consultant haematologist at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, in Manchester, said the drugs are so new they are yet to be named.
