Children's hospital €700m overspend

THE new National Children’s Hospital could cost more than €2billion, it emerged yesterday.

The building, one of the most expensive in the history of the State, may end up €700million over budget.

So far just 27 rooms out of 3,000 that were supposed to be finished by now have been completed.

The hospital’s project managers and the contractors, BAM, are at loggerheads over the spiralling costs, with Sinn Fein health spokesman David Cullinane saying it has now descended to a “fist fight”.
