Showbiz Editor RTE star Claire Byrne has apologised over Dave Fanning's comments about the late singer Christy Dignam.
He said sorry on Tuesday after claiming the late Aslan singer "blew it royally" when asked about the singer's legacy just a day after he died last week aged 63.
On her RTE Radio 1 show yesterday, she told listeners: "Dave Fanning, who interviewed Christy many times, made remarks for which he apologised. He acknowledged his attempt to reflect on the era totally missed the mark.
"They were his words and were ill timed and in poor taste. We're satisfied there was no intention to be hurtful. This programme also apologises for that and we're happy to do so."
