Dad & son's fishing trip tragedy after teen tried to get a bucket from water

A TEENAGER and his father drowned during a fishing trip after he attempted to retrieve a bucket which had drifted out into water.

Jacob Christian, 17, and 53-year-old Jonathon Christian perished at Lough Keel near Kilmacrennan, Co Donegal, on June 18, 2020.

The pair had been enjoying a day out along with another son, Benjamin, 15, when they got into difficulty.

The family had travelled to nearby Ballyheerin, where they owned a property, from their home in the Isle of Man.

Details leading up to the tragedy had been given at a previous inquest.

However, it was adjourned after Jonathon's wife Eileen expressed concerns over aspects of his mental health and capacity to look after his sons.
