A WOMAN was banned from owning pets for a decade after a court heard evidence of cruelty against two dogs.

The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals yesterday revealed one of the dogs weighed only two kilograms when it was rescued.

A judge at Portlaoise District Court fined and banned the Co Laois woman from owning or keeping animals for 10 years.

The court heard on September 15 the 28-year-old woman called Blessing Hamisi admitted offences under Sections 12 and 13 of the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013.

The case against Ms Hamisi, of Waterfront Apartments in Portarlington, arose when she was visited at her address by ISPCA inspector James McCormack on January 19, 2022.
