THE number of domestic abuse offences recorded by gardai increased by nearly 13% last year, new figures have shown.

Data released to Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald show that over 45,000 offences related to domestic, sexual and gender-based violence occurred in 2022.

The figures also show that gardai have reported a steady increase in the number of reports of coercive control in the last three years.

Deputy McDonald asked Justice Minister Helen McEntee to provide the number of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence offences data by each Garda district.
