DRUGS WARNING OVER LEAVING CERT PARTIES

PARENTS have been warned to look out for the effects of cocaine use as their kids celebrate their Leaving Cert results.

The HSE issued the warning and its adolescent addiction psychiatrist Bobby Smyth claimed that cocaine will inevitably “be present”.

Prof Smyth warned substance abuse now begins in primary school with children in fifth and sixth class drinking beer and vodka.

He urged mums and dads to warn celebrating exam students about the dangers of alcohol and drugs as they party on results night this Friday. Prof Smyth also told under-18s to “avoid alcohol altogether” but advised parents not to lecture when delivering the annual pre-Leaving Cert party advice.
