SAVING THE PLANET

IRELAND’S emissions overshoot is feared to be far worse than recent projections published by the Environment Protection Agency.

An Taisce is calling for “emergency course correction measures” to drive down carbon footprint so we can meet climate targets and avoid fines from the European Union for not doing our ‘fair share’.

Their analysis of the first two carbon budgets (2021-2030) found the country is “further off track than the EPA indicates”.

They say that’s because the overshoot from the country’s first five-year carbon budget was missing from the EPA 2023 Greenhouse Gas Emission Projections report.
