FIANNA Fail leader Micheal Martin claimed Sinn Fein is "infecting a generation of younger people" in its "triumphant" remembrance of the conflict.
But the Tanaiste has refused to rule out talking with Mary Lou McDonald about a coalition after the election.
Mr Martin was speaking at a party gathering in Tipperary before the Dail and Seanad return next week.
He said there was "huge incompatibility between Fianna Fail and Sinn Fein in areas like enterprise, the EU and climate action.
He said that when it came to the economy, if there was "any difficulty at all, Sinn Fein will reach for the tax weapon" and on climate they are "particularly two-faced".
He then launched his attack on the party's attitude to our troubled past. Mr Martin added: “The fundamental issue is in terms of legacy.
