'Free' TV licences cost Govt €35m

THE State has paid €34.8 million to RTE so far this year via the Department of the Media.

It covers the "free" TV Licence scheme which 512,638 old-age pensioners and certain social welfare recipients qualify for under the Household Benefits Package.
