Glen McManus, 34, was handed an 18-month term, with 12 suspended, by Judge James McCourt last month after he admitted punching referee Michael Lannigan in Wexford last September.
He also attacked another man who came to the ref&rsquo;s assistance.
It&rsquo;s understood he is on temporary release from the Midlands Prison as part of a community service programme.
That is of fered to inmates serving less than one year.
An Irish Prison Service spokesman did not comment on the case.
