AN elite squad of 23 players was confirmed yesterday to fly to Ireland’s first ever women’s World Cup – and each girl instantly earned €28,000.

Amid the disappointment and joy, were financial figures which show that FIFA’s payments increase to €250,000 for every one of the Girls in Green if they are crowned world champions.

The players’ money goes up every round to the final, with the FAI also pocketing a minimum of €1.4million in prize money for qualifying.

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20.

Ireland manager Vera Pauw yesterday announced her final squad after months of waiting since striker Amber Barrett emotionally clinched qualification last October.
