GARDA Commissioner Drew Harris and several top officers have jetted to Dubai as efforts intensify to deport mob boss Daniel Kinahan, it was confirmed yesterday.
In a major development, Mr Harris, Assistant Commissioner of Organised Crime and Serious Crime Justin Kelly and a delegation of senior gardai met with Dubai police this week to discuss the eventual deportation of Christy Kinahan Sr and his sons Daniel and Christy Jr.
It comes as gardai await a decision from the Director of Public Prosecutions on charges for all three Kinahan cartel leaders over directing a crime gang.
It was recently confirmed that gardai had sent a comprehensive file to the DPP.
Encrypted conversations are understood to form part of the case with officers hoping to prove in court that Daniel directed the activities of the murderous gang. The file has been with the DPP for a number of months and sources say gardai are hopeful of a decision within weeks.
Yesterday, the high-profile Garda meeting with Dubai police was officially confirmed by the force.
The Commissioner headed to the United Arab Emirates along with Assistant Commissioner Kelly.
In a statement to the Irish Mirror, gardai confirmed the meeting and said organised criminal gangs cause "death and misery" across the world.
