'HONOURED' TO BE RTE'S NEW DEE-GEE

KEVIN Bakhurst was named yesterday as the next Director General of RTE. 

The 57-year-old, who is currently the group director of the UK’s independent communications regulator Ofcom, will succeed Dee Forbes when she steps down this summer.

He was managing RTE’s director of news & current affairs and Deputy Director General between 2012 and 2016.

Mr Bakhurst was also a member of the Montrose Executive and served as acting Director General.

Speaking yesterday, he said: “I am honoured and delighted to take up the role of Director General.
