IRELAND sends fewer people to prison than most EU countries, it was confirmed yesterday.

The latest figures also reveal the proportion of non-Irish nationals in Irish prisons broadly reflects their share of the general population.

Ireland had 76 inmates per 100,000 population in 2021proportionally the 7th lowest among the 27 EU member states.
