AN Irish diplomat attacked during an armed burglary in Sudan is in “good shape”, Tanaiste Micheal Martin confirmed yesterday.

The country is teetering on the edge of anarchy as armed groups fight for control.

It’s thought 200 people have been killed and 1,800 injured since violence broke out but last night a 24-hour ceasefire was agreed.

Ireland’s EU ambassador in Khartoum Aidan O’Hara, 58, had been caught up in the violence after a terrifying robbery at his home.

Speaking yesterday in Belfast, Foreign Minister Mr Martin said: “Aidan is in good shape, thanks be to God.
