A CANDLELIGHT vigil will be held in Youghal this evening as a show of support for the families of two men who died in an Ironman contest.

Brendan Wall, 44, who was recently engaged, and 64-year-old Canadian Ivan Chittenden both passed away on Sunday.

They lost their lives in separate incidents during the swim section of the grueling race in the Co Cork seaside town.

It comes as Mr Wall, who was originally from Meath but had been living in the UK in recent years, will be laid to rest today.

His funeral mass will take place at the Church of St Brigid in Grangegeeth in Meath this afternoon before he will be buried in the adjoining cemetery.

It comes as Triathlon Ireland and Ironman bosses have clashed over whether the race should have gone ahead.
