Is Spain going to El in a handcart?

SPANISH voters went to the polls yesterday amid fears the far-right could return to power for the first time since Franco’s dictatorship.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who has been in office since 2018, called a snap national poll after his Spanish Socialist Workers Party and its farleft partner, Unidas Podemos, suffered a drubbing in local and regional elections in May.

Experts fear the Partido Popular, the conservative opposition led by Alberto Nunez, will win, but without the numbers to form a government – meaning they may join forces with the far-right Vox party.
