CLIMATE change has accelerated so drastically the United Nations says global warming has been replaced by "global boiling".
UN chief Antonio Guterres said the devastating wildfires amid the hottest July ever recorded are just symptoms of the "beginning".
There are warnings that the searing heat from global warming will result in deaths across Europe, Asia and North America.
Mr Guterres: "Climate change is here. It is terrifying. And it is just the beginning. The era of global warming has ended global boiling has arrived."
The World Meteorological Organisation's secretary general Petteri Taalas said the wildfires are a "foretaste of the future".
He added: "The extreme weather which has affected many millions of people in July is unfortunately the harsh reality of climate change and a foretaste of the future."
Scientists from the World Meteorological Organisation and Europe's Copernicus Climate Change Service said it is extremely likely" this July will be the hottest month on records going back to the 1940s.
