DUBLIN star David Byrne has revealed he is playing with no anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The eight-time All-Ireland winner ruptured his knee in last year’s National League and opted for a non-surgical route to build up the muscle.

The St Olaf’s club man returned to action just over two months later and featured in the All-Ireland quarter-finals and semi-finals against Cork and Kerry respectively.

“I was heavily strapped but I still managed to play which was deadly 10 weeks after an ACL tear,” he said. “Because I went the nonsurgical route it was always – and even this season – giving me a little bit of bother.”
