TOTTENHAM hope the arrival of James Maddison will help convince Harry Kane to stay.
Spurs shelled out a cool £40million to sign England star Maddison from Leicester earlier this week. And the hope is that the deal demonstrates the kind of ambition that will keep Kane out of Bayern Munich clutches.
Spurs claim reports of a £70m bid from the German giants is false, but Bayern are determined to land Kane this summer.
Tottenham, who insist the England striker is not for sale, will hold talks with him when he's back from holiday on July 10.
New boss Ange Postecoglou, who officially starts work tomorrow, will have face-to-face talks with Kane.
Maddison has signed a five-year contract and the hope is that he will form a dynamic partnership with the club's star striker. Postecoglou also wants a winger and two centre-backs, with Spurs willing to sell to help fund transfers.
Harry Winks has already left for Leicester in a £10m deal, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is wanted by Atletico Madrid.
Maddison, whose partner is expecting twins, admitted yesterday that it has been a whirlwind time for him.
He said: "I've got a little boy with my partner and two on the way very soon. It's been a whirlwind few weeks.
The 26-year-old, regarded by some as a maverick talent, says he has leadership qualities too. "I think I've always had leadership in me, a winning mentality, a self-belief that I'd get to this point," he said.
Maddison is expecting exciting things at Spurs this season following in-depth talks with Postecoglou (above).
He said: "Speaking to the manager is very important. Having a decent chat with him and seeing how he sees Spurs going this season.
