MAN, 62, CHARGED WITH OAP MURDER

THIS is the man charged with the murder of pensioner John Brogan at his rural bungalow.

Kevin McHale, 62, was brought before Castlebar District Court yesterday at 12.30pm for the short hearing.

Retired farmer Mr Brogan, 83, was found dead at his home at Pheasant Hill near the Co Mayo town on Sunday evening.

Det Sgt Michael Doherty, who arrested and charged the defendant, told the court he made no reply after caution and was handed a true copy of the charge sheet.

There was no bail application for the accused as the district court cannot grant it in a murder case and it requires a High Court application.
