Nicotine therapy cost cut

THE cost of nicotine replacement chewing gums, patches and lozenges could be capped at €80 a month under new plans.

The Irish Mirror understands the Health Minister Stephen Donnelly intends to include Nicotine Replacement Therapy products in the Drug Payment Scheme.

Under this scheme, households only have to pay a maximum of €80 each month for approved prescribed drugs, medicines and certain appliances.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy products are currently free of charge for those on medical cards but have to be bought by other smokers looking to quit.
